Dan Bylsma was put out of a job this weekend by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it didn’t take the 2009 Stanley Cup winning coach to find a new place to land in the hockey world.
Tonight, the former Penguins coach will join the NHL Networks contingent of former players as a studio analyst for Game 3 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Final between the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings. Coverage will take place outside of Madison Square Garden at Chase Plaza where Bylsma will join Kathryn Tappen, EJ Hradek, Kevin Weeks, Billy Jaffe and others as the Rangers try to avoid falling deeper behind the Kings, who they currently trail 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Bylsma, familiar with the Rangers after six-seasons behind the Penguins bench where he earned a Stanley Cup in the Spring of 2009 after stepping into the role following the firing of Michel Therrien, also has some familiarity with the Kings where he spent some of his NHL career and made his league debut with in the 1995-1996 season. Bylmsa most recently got an up-close look at the Blueshirts when his squad met up with the Metropolitan division rival in the 2014 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. The Penguins loss in Game 7 to the Rangers seemed to be the final straw on the decline of his grip of the team, as the Penguins released Bylsma after a 109 point regular season.
The NHL Network will provide three hours of extensive live coverage leading up to every game of the Stanley Cup Final, starting with NHL Live at 5 p.m. ET. Following the game, NHLN will feature a post-game show with full analysis.
On days where the Kings and Rangers don’t play, the NHL Network will air NHL Live from 5-7 p.m.ET on weeknights, and NHL Tonight: 2014 Stanley Cup Final edition every night.
